This Utility Safety Partners (USP) endorsed course is designed for buried facility locators (Locators), as well as personnel involved in requesting, planning, and overseeing locating activities. It provides an overview of the processes involved with locating and marking buried facilities. Along with a competency assessment, this training is required for any Locators participating in the Alternate Locator Provider (ALP) Program.

The objective is to build a Locator resource pool which focuses on consistently trained and qualified Locators with a focus on safe locating of buried utilities, mitigation of risk to people, facilities, and the environment, while enabling timely response to locate notifications. 

Course content includes:

  • Locator safety and responsibilities
  • Locating technologies
  • Electromagnetic locating; current, frequency, antennas, and methods of applying a signal
  • Equipment features
  • The lifespan of a typical locate request
  • Locating techniques and challenges, and
  • Communication, marking, and documentation of findings

Our class is going digital, meaning we'll use online materials instead of paper and will be offered mainly as a Virtual Instructor-Led Training (vILT) course via Zoom! This change makes our learning more interactive and accessible for everyone. Each participant must have a laptop or PC with video and audio capabilities and a stable internet connection.

Participants are required to attend the entire program and complete a written, open-book exam to a minimum of 80% for successful completion.

CANCELLATION POLICY: No shows will be Charged the full course fee. Full Course fee will be charged unless cancelled 5 business days prior to course. Certification of training will not be released until payment for the course has been submitted. 

RESCHEDULING POLICY: Training will be rescheduled to another available class and must be taken place within 6 months. If the training has not taken place within 6 months of the original start date Global Training Centre will consider the class cancelled by you and all deposits, fees and remaining balance will be forfeited.
