Light Hydrocarbons and Hazardous Atmospheres

This half-day program describes the effects and hazards associated with sweet gas exposure in the workplace, with emphasis on controlling and understanding the hazard.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand SDS in relation to light hydrocarbons
  • Characteristics of hydrocarbon gases
  • Understand auto ignition temperatures
  • Define common light hydrocarbon gases
  • Learn effects of oxygen deficient or enriched atmospheres
  • Understand hydrocarbon narcosis, explosive and health effects of hydrocarbon gases, exposure limits and measurements
  • Define emergency response strategies
  • Precautions and hazards associated with natural gas, including NORM
  • Incident case studies will be explored

Competencies

The competencies of this program are tested and measured through 100% participation of the learning objectives. Participants must achieve a minimum pass mark of 70% on a written competency exam.
